Pine River Fire Department applied for a grant through Wisconsin Public Service Foundation for a Rewarding Responders program this past summer. WPS has awarded over $350,000 of support to local responders through the Foundation since its inception.
During the 2021 application period, Pine River was awarded $2,000 for scene safety equipment.
The grant provides collapsible high visibility signs, personal safety vests, and cones to better mark the scene of emergencies. Pine River provides life safety coverage to a large portion of State Rd. 64 along with parts of State Rd. 17 and a five-mile stretch of US Hwy. 51.
Capt. Mike Caylor wrote the successful grant application, stressing the importance of scene safety for responders after a couple of close calls over the last few years. “When we work in low light conditions, or during ice and snow events, we stress the importance of safety for our firefighters, our emergency responder partners, and those involved in the incident. Any help we can get to alert motorists to an emergency scene or responder locations can only save lives.”
