A 46-year old Merrill man remains hospitalized in stable condition, following involvement in an officer involved shooting  Saturday evening.
According to a press release issued by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday morning, a patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop  Saturday evening on STH 64 in the Town of Corning, with an individual who was wanted following a domestic violence related incident. During the stop, the driver opened the door of the vehicle and displayed a weapon. The deputy fired, striking the suspect.
The deputy involved received no apparent injury.
Per policy, the deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation. The deputy involved remains unnamed at this time, but the sheriff’s office indicated the deputy involved has over 13 years of law enforcement experience. The suspect’s name has also yet to be released.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) led investigation of this incident has been a collaboration between DCI, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory, and the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has been fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.
DCI is continuing to determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports and evidence to the Lincoln County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.
