A 34-year-old Merrill man was arrested on a felony charge early Monday morning after a cell 911 caller reported a possible impaired driver. Just after 3:30 a.m., a caller reported a vehicle traveling south on US Hwy. 51 that was all over the roadway. A deputy caught up to the vehicle and stopped it on US Hwy. 51 at County Rd. K after he observed it nearly enter the median. The driver was arrested after field sobriety tests for a felony fifth offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was also cited for operating on a revoked license. At a bond hearing on Monday the man was released after posting a $2,000 cash bond.
A 59-year-old Merrill man was arrested Tuesday evening after deputies responded to a reported disturbance in the Town of Scott. A resident reported the man was intoxicated and causing a disturbance at a home. When a deputy arrived he tried to take the man into custody but he refused to cooperate prompting the deputy to deploy pepper spray. The man was transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. At a bond hearing on Wednesday the man was released by a Lincoln County Judge on a signature bond.
A 33-year-old Illinois man was cited for an OWI offense after a deputy found a man lying under a snowmobile. Just after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday the deputy was traveling on State Rd. 86 near US Hwy. 51 when he observed a snowmobile rolled over in the ditch and landed on top of the driver. The deputy helped the man up and noticed both the man and his riding partner displayed signs of impairment. Both men were placed through field sobriety tests and as a result the riding partner, from Illinois was taken into custody and cited for operating a snowmobile while intoxicated. The men were also warned for failing to have trail passes.
Deputies credited early warnings and safe driving with the latest round of snow to pass through the area. Around noon on Tuesday heavy snow and strong winds entered the county. The Merrill area saw the most snow while snow in the Tomahawk area was lighter. Blowing and drifting caused additional problems on some roadways and deputies put on extra miles checking for stalled motorists. The only two incidents reported involved minor slide offs with no injuries reported.
A Waukesha County woman was injured after a snowmobile crash Saturday afternoon in the Town of Wilson. Just after noon a cell 911 caller reported that a snowmobile had left a trail and struck a tree. Firefighters from the Tomahawk Fire Department assisted in removing the victim from the woods. She was then transported by Tomahawk EMS to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A 41-year-old Rhinelander man was injured late Saturday evening after a snowmobile crash in the Town of Bradley. Just before midnight a cell caller reported that a man had returned with injuries after his snowmobile had rolled over. Tomahawk EMS transported the man to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital. There a deputy interviewed the man and cited him for operating a snowmobile while intoxicated. A charge of disorderly conduct will also be forwarded to the district attorney for the man’s behavior while being treated.
A 58-year-old Tomahawk woman was taken into custody Sunday night on an OWI charge. At 9:30 p.m., a caller reported a vehicle in the ditch on County Rd. A north of County Rd. U in the Town of Bradley. A deputy noted the woman displayed signs of impairment and placed her through field sobriety tests. As a result of those tests she was taken into custody for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. She was later released to a responsible party.
The number of car deer crashes is back up with eight being reported.
