MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

03-27-23
At 11:31 a.m. a hotel reported two females spent the night and were refusing to pay for their stay. The two females were found to have warrants for their arrest through Marathon County and were arrested for those warrants.
At 4:01 p.m. a male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

03-28-23
At 9:23 a.m. a caller reported someone had stolen stereo equipment from his vehicle sometime overnight. Investigation is ongoing.
At 12:37 p.m. a caller reported someone struck her vehicle while it was parked in a parking lot and left the scene without reporting the crash. Investigation is ongoing.

03-31-23
At 12:44 p.m. a caller reported a scam. It was reported someone had called her claiming to be from Spectrum and they agreed to lower her bill. She provided her banking information but afterward, suspected it maybe a scam. The complainant contacted Spectrum directly and they confirmed that they had not called her. She was able to freeze her bank account before any money was lost.
At 8:30 p.m. a caller reported someone had backed into her vehicle while at a tavern parking lot. The driver of the striking vehicle then left the scene. The driver is known and numerous witnesses observed the crash. The driver will be cited for hit and run and a crash report will be completed.

At 9:58 a.m. a caller reported he had been struck by a male. It was found the two men were clearing snow out of a church parking lot and a dispute over snow removal ensued. This led to an argument between the two, and another male assisting one of the crews drove his plow onto the boulevard toward the other man. The driver then reportedly got out and punched the caller. The other involved male denied punching the caller and claimed he had been struck by the caller in the leg with a shovel. The investigation is ongoing.
At 11:09 a.m. a caller reported finding a damaged door at their place of employment, consistent with somebody prying the door open. Officers cleared the building and no one was located and nothing was reported missing. It is unknown if the damage is old. The Investigation is ongoing.
At 12:12 p.m. a caller reported the neighbors had been arguing and yelling and they were fearful that the argument might turn physical. Contact was made with the neighbors, who admitted to arguing throughout the day due to stress of moving. They agreed to continue their move without yelling and disturbing neighbors.
At 9:16 p.m. a student attending prom reported being slapped by an ex-boyfriend. The matter will be investigated by the school resource officer.

04-02-23
At 2:51 a.m. a caller reported a male and female yelling and screaming at an apartment. A moment later a female at that apartment reported her brother had struck her and taken her TV. Upon arrival, the female was found to be intoxicated and did not provide any details as to what had occurred but did report her brother had struck her. The female refused to provide the name of her brother. The brother had left the scene on foot and was located at a business a short distance away. He refused to identify himself or answer any questions. An officer recognized him from past contacts as the female’s brother. The male was found to have two warrants for his arrest, a marijuana pipe in his pocket with marijuana in the bowl, and two open felony bonds, and as such, was arrested.
At 1:25 p.m. a male reported gun shots at a hotel. It was found there had been no gun shots. It is unknown what made the noises the man heard.
