MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

08-01-2022
At 2:19 p.m. an officer investigated a minor crash in a parking lot. A crash report was completed.
At 9:27 p.m. a caller reported a male peering into a neighbor’s window. The man was known to be a former tenant of the rental unit. He was unable to be located.

08-02-2022
At 10:48 a.m. a caller reported someone had spray painted on his retaining wall.
At 2:02 p.m. a caller reported someone stole her cell phone while she was at a store. She called later to report she found the cell phone in her vehicle and it had not been stolen after all.
At 3:44 p.m. it was reported someone stole a large speaker from the Festival Grounds. The speakers were in the process of being put up and were left overnight. One of them was stolen.
At 4:02 p.m. an officer assisted Lincoln County deputies with a male who was reported to be being disorderly at an address at the city limits. The officer located the male nearby the residence. The male was arrested by deputies shortly thereafter for disorderly conduct and bail jumping.

08-03-2022
At 12:17 p.m. a vehicle was stopped and the driver was issued citations for not having the vehicle registered, false display of registration on the vehicle, and for operating after being suspended.
At 2:19 p.m. a vehicle was stopped and the driver was issued a citation for not having the vehicle registered, no insurance, and for operating after revoked.

08-04-2022
At 9:22 p.m. a store reported that a female was walking around concealing items in her purse. The female was confronted as she was leaving the store and admitted to not paying for the items.The female was then taken into custody for the incident.

08-05-2022
At 3:15 a.m. an officer observed two people at a park in violation of the park curfew. One was found to have warrants for her arrest through Lincoln and Marathon Counties. She was arrested for the warrants.
At 9:18 a.m. an officer investigated a crash on E. Second St. A crash report was completed and the offending driver was cited for failure to yield right of way.
At 9:37 a.m. a caller reported someone had stolen her credit card and used it at a Merrill store without her consent. Investigation is ongoing.
At 1:55 p.m. a caller reported someone had entered her residence and garage and stolen cigarettes. The suspect was found to be a juvenile neighbor.
At 9:04 p.m. a caller reported a caretaker had stolen some of his property. Investigation is ongoing.
At 10:44 p.m. a caller reported his mother’s boyfriend had shoved him and attempted to put him in a headlock after a verbal altercation between them. The boyfriend had left the scene prior to officer’s arrival. The boyfriend will be charged with domestic disorderly conduct.

08-07-2022
At 10:23 a.m. a caller reported finding a handgun lying on the street. An officer found it to be a broken CO2 BB gun.
At 11:08 a.m. a caller reported she was backing out of a driveway and struck a mailbox. A crash report will be completed.
At 4:01 p.m. a caller reported her juvenile son had been struck by another juvenile while he was at a park. It was found the son had also been punched in the face the previous day, as well. The suspect was located and transported to the Police Department to meet with Social Services. He will be referred for physical abuse to a child.
At 9:27 p.m. a caller reported a domestic dispute had occurred between her and her live-in boyfriend. The boyfriend had fled the scene. The female reported the two argued and the male agreed to leave the residence but attempted to take property belonging to the girlfriend. She attempted to prevent this and he responded by punching her, kicking her, and grabbing her around the neck. The boyfriend will be charged with domestic battery and strangulation/suffocation.
At 11:13 p.m. an anonymous caller reported someone in a vehicle who was consuming intoxicants in a vehicle in a parking lot who was underage. Contact was made with four underage individuals who were located in a park after park hours. Two of the four were found to have been consuming intoxicants and were cited for underage drinking. All four were warned for park curfew violation.

08-08-2022
At 11:56 a.m. a door to a business was reported to have been damaged sometime over the weekend. At this time, it is unknown if anyone was able to get into the building. Investigation is ongoing.
At 5:08 p.m. a driver was stopped and issued a citation for speed.

08-09-2022
At 4:54 p.m. officers responded to a residence for a disturbance. After speaking with both parties present, it appeared that the female had slapped the male after a disagreement. The female was then taken into custody for domestic disorderly conduct.

08-10-2022
At 11:25 a.m. officers responded to a physical altercation between two individuals. After the investigation concluded, officers arrested one of the individuals for battery and disorderly conduct.
At 11:29 a.m. officers responded to a criminal damage to property complaint. A male party had been upset and opened a door aggressively to the point of a window on the door shattering. The male party is being charged with criminal damage to property and bail jumping.
At 4:18 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Riverside Ave. in reference to a cougar being sighted. Officers checked the area without locating a cougar; WI DNR was made aware and is investigating further.

08-11-2022
At 2:48 a.m. a caller reported a male harassing a female in a tavern parking lot. Officers located two males having a loud discussion concerning upcoming NFL games. They went their separate ways.
At 2:25 p.m. a male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
At 3:38 p.m. a caller reported someone struck her son’s vehicle, which was parked on the street, and fled the scene. Investigation continues.

08-12-2022
At 1:34 p.m. a two-vehicle crash was reported in a business parking lot. It was reported to be only a property damage crash, and so a crash report will be completed at a later date.
At 7:41 p.m. an individual reported that her vehicle window had been broken out by a male party who was not welcome on the property. The female stated that the window was broken by the male swinging an object at it after they had gotten into a disagreement. Before officer’s arrival, the male party was found to have left the scene and was unable to be located. At this time the investigation is ongoing.

08-13-2022
At 7:33 a.m. officers responded to a report of a male walking that was possibly under the influence of intoxicants. When located, the male admitted to drinking alcohol that day and had multiple cans of alcohol in his possession. The male was then taken into custody after it was learned that he had a bond condition of absolute sobriety and could not be in possession of any alcoholic beverages.
At 7:36 p.m. officers responded to a residence after an altercation was reported to be occurring there. After speaking with the male and female involved, it was found that they had gotten into a verbal argument after the male arrived home, which escalated to a physical altercation. As a result of the incident, the female was taken into custody for domestic disorderly conduct.
At 9:59 p.m. a business reported that they had stopped a female after she attempted to leave with multiple items that she had not paid for. When speaking with the female, she admitted to not paying for the items and said it was because she did not have enough money. The female was issued a citation for retail theft as a result of the incident.

08-14-2022
At 9:45 p.m. a vehicle was stopped after it was observed operating with no headlamps or tail lamps illuminated. The driver was warned for the lights and issued a citation for no insurance after he was unable to provide proof when requested.
