MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

06-06-22
At 7:01 a.m. a crash was reported in a parking lot. A driver had struck a pole in the lot. Crash report will be completed.
At 7:00 p.m. a business reported receiving a counterfeit $100 bill. Investigation is ongoing.
At 9:20 p.m. two males arrived at the Sheriff’s Office parking lot with a camper, which housed a female that reportedly was trespassing in it. The female inside was found to have a warrant for her arrest and was arrested for that warrant. She was also found to be in possession of a methamphetamine pipe and methamphetamine. She was arrested for the warrant, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, and three counts of felony bail jumping. The owner of the camper did not wish to press charges for the trespassing issue or damage she had caused to a door.

06-07-22
At 11:05 a.m. an apartment manager reported a tenant had been evicted and caused extensive damage inside the apartment. Investigation is ongoing.
At 3:55 p.m. a male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
At 4:45 p.m. a caller reported a hit-and-run crash that occurred in a business parking lot. The driver struck another vehicle in the lot and then left the scene. The caller was able to provide a registration plate, and an officer located the vehicle at a residence. Contact was made with the driver who displayed characteristics of intoxication. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated and cited for hit and run.
At 7:46 p.m. a caller reported illegal fireworks being shot off outside a residence. An officer had been at the residence two hours earlier and spoke to those involved in shooting off the illegal fireworks. The officer returned and nobody would answer the door. The four individuals will be cited for illegal fireworks.
At 8:29 p.m. a caller reported a vehicle speeding in the area of the roundabout. The caller was able to provide a partial registration plate number and the officer was able to determine who the vehicle belonged to. An hour later officers received another complaint about the vehicle, which this time had reportedly been driving in the oncoming lane of traffic and onto a sidewalk. Officers located the driver later in the shift, and the driver admitted to his poor driving, indicating he had driven across the lanes and jumped the curb after observing a friend he wished to converse with. He was cited for disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle.

06-08-2022
At 10:48 a.m. an individual reported that her vehicle had been struck by a vehicle that had since left, while parked in a parking lot. Investigation is ongoing.
At 9:21 p.m. a female reported that her ex-husband was sending her son messages as a way to try to communicate with her, even though they have a no-contact order. Officers confirmed that the messages were addressed to the female and that there was a no-contact in place. The male was later taken into custody for violating the court order.

06-09-2022
At 9:42 a.m. a bank employee reported that the bank had received a fake $100 bill. The bill was collected by officers and brought back to the Merrill Police Department.
At 2:22 p.m. a two-vehicle crash was reported in the parking lot of a business. Only one of the vehicles involved in the crash was found have very minor damage, while the other vehicle sustained no damage. No crash report will be completed due to the limited damage.

06-10-22
At 8:39 p.m. an officer observed a man unloading old wood lattice into a park dumpster. The man stated he was unaware he could not use the park dumpsters to dispose of his refuse from home. He was provided several alternatives to get rid of the refuse. He was warned for illegal dumping.
At 10:33 p.m. a caller reported hearing a loud noise outside his residence. He found someone had smashed the rear window of his vehicle. Investigation is ongoing.
At 11:46 p.m. a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy requested a K9 at a traffic stop on US 51. K9 Eros arrived and conducted a drug sniff of the vehicle and positively alerted to the odor of drugs from the vehicle. Methamphetamine and marijuana were found. The man was arrested by the deputy for possession of methamphetamine, possession of THC, and operating while intoxicated.

06-11-22
At 11:22 a.m. a caller reported someone struck a garage at an apartment complex sometime overnight.
At 8:38 p.m. a business reported some young adults were in the parking lot coming and going from the business, and he believed they may be consuming intoxicants in the parking lot. Three individuals were located near a vehicle which contained numerous open containers and an open cooler containing unopened alcoholic beverages. One admitted she had been consuming alcoholic beverages earlier in the day. Another admitted to driving the vehicle to the location without someone age 21 or older present. Both refused preliminary breath tests. Both were cited for underage drinking/possessing. A third agreed to a preliminary breath test and it was found he had not been drinking. At 10:27 p.m. a caller reported a male being disorderly at an event at the Festival Grounds. The man had been yelling and making threats toward others present. The man left on foot and officers began searching for him. Shortly thereafter, another caller reported the man at a store causing further issues. Officers located the man and arrested him for disorderly conduct and bail jumping. The man resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody, and subsequently an electronic control device was utilized to gain control of him. He was further charged with resisting an officer.

06-12-22
At 5:06 p.m. a caller reported someone stole his motorcycle in the past couple of days.

06-13-2022
At 4:22 a.m. a male was stopped for failing to completely stop at a stop sign. During the traffic stop, officers could smell an odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle. One cigarette containing marijuana was located in the vehicle. The male was cited for possession of THC.
At 3:16 p.m. a business reported that an individual had left the store with multiple items without paying for them. Investigation is ongoing at this time.

06-14-2022
At 9:52 a.m. a female reported that money and another item had gone missing from her apartment. She had last seen the property the day before and could no longer find it. At this time, it is unknown who may have entered the apartment to take the items.

06-15-22
At 4:16 a.m. officers assisted a citizen in removing a bat from her residence.
At 9:04 a.m. a caller reported a man at an apartment complex was screaming and swearin,g causing concern from other tenants. The man was located and arrested for disorderly conduct and bail jumping.
At 7:41 p.m. a caller reported a snapping turtle in his yard he wished to be removed. Officer captured the turtle and moved it to a more appropriate habitat.

06-16-22
At 12:01 p.m. a caller reported someone hit her vehicle, causing minor damage, while in a business parking lot. Someone left a note purporting to have witnessed the striking vehicle. Investigation is ongoing.
At 3:52 p.m. a store reported two juveniles shoplifting from the store. It was found one had been shoplifting and was cited and released to parent.
At 4:00 p.m. a male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

06-17-2022
At 3:38 p.m. a female driver was stopped after she was observed driving over the posted speed limit. The driver was issued a citation for her speed.

06-18-2022
At 12:05 p.m. a crash was reported involving three vehicles and causing injury. After speaking with all the parties involved, it was found that a vehicle failed to see another vehicle ahead of it slowing to make a turn, causing a collision two cars. This collision then caused the vehicle that was struck to slide into a parked vehicle. The driver of the vehicle that failed to see the slowing car was issued a citation for inattentive driving for the incident.
At 1:11 p.m. an officer stopped two ATV’s for no license plates visible. The two individuals were later issued citations for the violation.

06-19-2022
At 12:58 p.m. a business reported that someone had taken multiple items from the store without paying for them a few days prior. A description was given of the party involved and the investigation is ongoing.
At 4:39 p.m. a business reported that two individuals had failed to pay for multiple items before leaving the store. A license plate and description was provided for the parties involved and the investigation is ongoing.
