MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

02-28-2022
At 9:02 a.m. a business reported someone had stolen scrap metal from outside the business two days prior. Investigation continues.

At 3:05 p.m. an officer stopped a vehicle after finding the registered owner had a revoked driving status. The driver was the registered owner, and he was cited for operating after revocation and was arrested for bail jumping after it was found he had two open bonds, both of which stipulated he is not to operate a vehicle without a valid license.

03-02-2022
At 6:33 a.m. officers responded to a report of a parked vehicle blocking an alley. Due to failed attempts to contact the registered owner, a towing company was contacted and the vehicle was towed away. While the tow company was on scene, contact was made with a female who had come out of a nearby residence. The female was found to have a warrant out for her arrest and was taken into custody.

At 3:09 p.m. officers responded to a store for an individual who had attempted to take several items from the store without paying for them. The individual was identified but the investigation is still ongoing.
At 5:56 p.m. officers responded to a store for an individual who had attempted to take several items without paying for them. The individual was cited for retail theft.

03-04-2022
At 3:24 a.m. a caller reported two vehicles chasing one another, with one possibly attempting to strike a female pedestrian. An officer located one of the vehicles and an assisting Deputy located the other. It was reported one vehicle had become stuck in the snow and the other vehicle assisted in getting it unstuck. The female refused to speak to officers. One driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated after it was found he was under the influence of drugs.

At 8:51 a.m. a parent reported their child had left the residence following an argument about going to school. An officer located the child nearby.

At 4:59 p.m. a caller reported his juvenile sons were physically fighting. It was found one brother accused another brother of stealing from his bedroom which prompted him to break items in the brother’s bedroom. He also confronted an older brother and punched him several times. Investigation continues.

03-05-2022
At 4:14 p.m. a caller reported the neighbor’s vehicle was rolling down the road. He was able to get in and prevent it from crashing. Contact was made with the neighbor who reported he had accidentally left the vehicle in drive when he exited it.

03-06-2022
At 8:38 p.m. officers responded to a report of property damage to a vehicle parked on the road. The driver’s side front and back window had been broken out and the windshield had been partially damaged, as well. Investigation is ongoing.

At 10:04 p.m. a vehicle was stopped after it was observed striking the edge of the road multiple times and displaying other driving behaviors common with operating under the influence. The driver was put through the field sobriety tests and then taken into custody. After further tests, he was cited for operating under the influence and released to a responsible party.
